Recent Studies Revealed an Increased in Lumbar Spine Mobility & Decrease in Low Back Pain
Studies show that whole body cryotherapy can significantly reduce low back pain and significantly increase low back mobility.
WHAT IS LOW BACK PAIN?
It has been estimated that 80% of Americans over the age of 30 have consistent or frequent low back pain. This can be from injury, lack of mobility, or degenerative disease. Chances are high that you or someone you know suffers from this condition. Unfortunately opioids and risky back surgery have been the answers for many that have failed miserably. Several recent studies on the effects of whole body cryotherapy (WBC) on these conditions, show not just dramatic improvement, but can even help clients avoid opioids or surgery.
HOW DOES WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY AFFECT LOW BACK PAIN?
Two recent studies on elderly men with chronic low back pain that had persisted for 3 months or longer, showed great results. The studies consisted of 80 patients in 2014 (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25133646) and 96 patients in 2013 (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24304196). The results of the 2014 study showed “significant condition improvement” and concluded that “WBC is effective in treating patients with lower back pain”. When was the last time you heard someone on opioids or post back surgery that they had significant improvement or that it was effective?
The results of the 2013 study said that patients who used WBC and exercise vs exercise alone showed “significantly lower active potentials of the lumbar spine”. What that means in layman’s terms is the neurons fired less, which decreased the pain signals to the brain. This significantly decreased their pain level. This study also showed that the WBC patients had a “significant increase in range of motion of lumbar spine mobility” compared to those who just did exercise alone.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
The takeaway from these 2 studies shows that whole body cryotherapy can significantly reduce low back pain and significantly increase low back mobility. These just happen to be the 2 biggest complaints of people with chronic back pain. First, the pain impinges on every area of their lives. Sitting, standing, walking, exercising, working, and even sleeping. By significantly decreasing their pain level we can immediately impact the quality of life. Second, if we can significantly improve their mobility, they can move more freely and not just perform daily tasks with more ease. But, they can actually begin exercises that strengthen and stabilize their low back which can actually help them not just manage the pain, but actually progress, get stronger, and improve their condition. All, without opioids or risky surgery. If you suffer from low back pain, or know someone who does, get into whole body cryotherapy now and experience the recovery.
